I don’t know about you but I absolutely love scarves! They can add a pop of color to any outfit in any season and are often my go to gift for a friend’s birthday. Although it’s summer, these light and airy scarves are perfect for a cooler day, like today! These woven, cotton scarves are hand-made by women from villages in the Baray district of Cambodia, about two hours outside of Phnom Penh. These artisans are part of a group called VillageWorks that was started by the Girl’s Brigade of Singapore, a non-profit Christian organization that works to improve the lives of women and girls in Southeast Asia.
VillageWorks is dedicated to empowering people in small villages to embrace their traditions and create opportunity that brings meaning to their lives. The group supports training centers for these women where they can improve their skills in sewing, weaving and embroidery.VillageWorksColorScarf
These scarves are part of their Songkhem Collection which also includes convenient tote bags that we also sell! (pictured left). Songkhem means hope in the Khmer language which is exactly what you bring to them through each purchase of a VillageWorks scarf that you make. So, pop on in during this fabulously cool weathered week to pick out that much needed birthday gift or just make this an excuse to treat yourself!
Remember, mention this post to receive 10% off any VillageWorks scarf this week!
