So you’ve decided you have too much stuff… now what? Filling boxes with donated items feels great, freeing, enlightening. You think “Yes! I feel lighter with everything I throw in that box!” until you’re rifling through your closet and you reach a sequined, beaded flapper dress. Worn: once. On one hand, it’s gorgeous. But, you don’t need it. “But what if I get invited to a 1920s costume party some day?” The stress of decision making causes you to give up immediately and take a nap (or is that just me?)
After the nap, it’s at this time that I turn to my favorite place for inspiration and motivation: the internet.
Curated pictures of sparse apartments:
Uncluttered closets:
And I’m ready to face the dress.
For more inspiration, here are some of the articles and blogs that keep me motivated.
Becoming Minimalist: A great place to start for incorporating simplicity into all parts of your life. My favorite post : 101 Physical Things That Can Be Reduced In Your Home. Bobby pins. Say no more.
The Minimalists: Another lifestyle guide with extensive articles about every aspect of minimalism. Who wants to play this game with me?
Into Mind: Fashion focused, gorgeous photography, and incredibly detailed steps to take your wardrobe from a mismatched, sprawling cruise ship to a tightly run Italian speedboat. And the wardrobe guides are very straight forward, breaking up tasks day by day.
Un-Fancy: It was Caroline’s blog that finally convinced me that even I could have a capsule wardrobe. As a visual learner, seeing the daily outfits Caroline comes up with using only 37 pieces (including shoes), is amazing. While I haven’t yet committed to that small of a closet, I know I could do it thanks to her example!
Four Corners “Conscious Living” Pinterest Board: My collection of the best info and stylish pictures on the internet. Lots of “you go, girl, get rid of that” quotes. A sample of what you’ll find there: Good luck de-cluttering!
Don’t forget: We’re showing “TINY: a story about living small” on August 7th at 6pm at Four Corners. Could you live in a 124 square ft house or is your closet bigger than that?
